Stone Creek Golf Club

Co-designed by PGA Tour star (and Oregon’s own) Peter Jacobsen, Stone Creek Golf Club is a 6,873-yard layout that opened in 2002 to rave reviews.  It is considered by locals and travelers alike as a “go to” destination for the avid golfer looking to experience affordable Portland golf at its finest.

Stone Creek’s varied design is apparent when comparing the front and back nine experiences.  While many of the holes on the outward nine are more forgiving off the tee and play along fairly level terrain, the back nine is densely forested and features varied elevation changes.  Throughout the well-kept design, golfers enjoy pristine views of iconic Mt. Hood, the 11,250-foot peak synonymous with Portland and the Pacific Northwest.

Design features include the ninth hole, a 397 yard par-4 that offers players a classic “risk/reward” option off the tee:  Play the ball right to an elevated fairway offering an open view of the green, or take the “short cut” onto the lower, narrower fairway left that is riddled with bunkers on both sides.  Holes 12 through 15 offer what many consider to be one of the toughest stretches of golf in the region, as the layout’s namesake, Stone Creek, meanders through the up-and-down four-hole stretch, challenging players from tee to green.  The 18th hole, a staunch 520 yard par-5 that often plays into a prevailing wind, can give players one last chance at birdie (or par) to cap off an enjoyable round of golf.

Stone Creek was recently recognized by LINKS Magazine as the #1 most eco-friendly golf course in the state of Oregon (2013).  Its continued commitment to environmental consciousness makes it an ideal example of conservation for all facilities to emulate.
