Heron Lakes Golf Club

A perennial favorite amongst local golfers due to its challenge, accessibility, and affordability, Heron Lakes Golf Club is one of the few facilities in the region to offer two 18-hole tracks that are both open to the public.  Both courses – the Greenback and the Great Blue - were designed by legendary architect Robert Trent Jones II.  The Greenback Course opened in 1972, followed by the Great Blue some twenty years later in 1992.

Heron Lakes makes appropriate use of well-positioned bunkers, elevated greens, and water hazards, providing an experience that can be both challenging and rewarding to golfers of all abilities.  The Great Blue Course is viewed by most as the facility’s more varied test, while the Greenback offers an opportunity to enjoy play on a more forgiving terrain that rewards consistency.  The combination of a championship-caliber layout and risk/reward play opportunities (Great Blue), coupled with a more inviting parkland-style concept (Greenback), make Heron Lakes’ optimal metro-area location just north of downtown Portland an ideal stop for destination golfers as well as those who are looking for a quality golf experience at a reasonable price.

Heron Lakes is one of four public golf facilities owned by the City of Portland.  It is a host site for the First Tee of Portland, providing a venue and opportunity for young people to learn the core values and benefits of the game of golf.
